I first heard the term “Altered Book” in 2007 when Cathy Melio, education director at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, suggested I do a piece for the up coming “Out of Bounds” altered book show. The show was a collaboration between CMCA and the Rockport and Camden libraries. I had no idea what an altered book was but on investigation became fascinated with the idea of creating a piece of art from an old book. Upon completing my first “book” I was surprised that ideas just kept coming. I ended doing seven books for that show! The last two books on this page are my submissions for the 2008 exhibition “Renewables” put on by CMCA, Waterfall Arts and the Belfast Free Library.

I donated most of the “Books” to the Camden and Rockport libraries. They are either on display or can be checked out.
