Every so often, no matter what I’m involved in, I just have to get my hands into some clay!
I have always liked the sound of ceramic bells, so I decided to make a bunch to hang outside my studio.
I thought they would make a nice addition to the entrance, just in time for The Country Roads Artists and Artisans Tour, next week (September 11th, 12th, & 13th) This is the first year that I am part of the tour and I am very excited to be participating! See: www.artisanstour.org
To make the bells, I made a mold for the cone shape and slip cast it. The small black birds were also slip cast using a mold. I then made beads and hand painted them. I also made fused glass shapes in a rainbow of colors to hang from the clanger (a wooden ball) Each has a different shape cut into it , and each makes a very different sound! I hope to have at least 16 hanging when the art tour starts.
It’s always exciting to open the kiln after a glaze firing...its a thrill, that for years has kept me coming back for more!
